Katrin Korfmann/NL *1971 plays in many of her works with the relation of space and surfaces. A few years ago she began to intervene with public space using huge monochrome colour fields.
Her walls withdraw the depth of space and reduce it to the two-dimensional structure of the picture plane. She creates unoccupied spaces where the colour can be subjectively interpreted and the plane can function like a projection background. The real surrounding remains unseen, with all knowledge and context disappeared, leaving now a time in a new created space. The artist often documented her works with a camera and so photography has become a new medium for her. Her photographic compositions build a new idealistic space referring both to time and space. Now she invents a neutral space where people could come together whether in utopia or reality.

Katrin Korfmann has often been acknowledged for her work, p.e. receiving the Prix de Rome, the most important award for young art in the Netherlands. Numerous exhibitions have taken her throughout Europe, Asia and the USA with many of her works represented in both private and public collections.
